Newmont to Start Explorations in Sumbawa Soon

PT. NNT has been mining copper and gold since March 2000 in the Batu Hijau mine in West Nusa Tenggara

PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara (NNT) will soon start explorations in Elang Block, Sumbawa regency. PT NNT and the Sumbawa regency administration had signed an MoU on explorations in the working contract of PT NNT in Sumbawa regency, Sumbawa Besar, on Wednesday night.

The agreement was signed by Sumbawa Regent Drs H Jamaluddin Malik and Operations General Manager of PT NNT David Lilley. H Jamaluddin Malik said the MoU was an starting step of PT NNT to be able it to operate safely and peacefully.

For the people, PT NNT’s operations will have an economic multiplier, and therefore the company’s operations in Sumbawa are expected to run smooth with the support of the regional administration and people of Sumbawa.In the meantime, on the same occasion, Operations General Manager of PT NNT David Lilley expressed appreciation for the familiarization by an integrated team.

"We are also grateful for the support and acceptance of the government and people of Sumbawa of the plan of PT NNT to resume it explorations in the work contract of PT NNT in Sumbawan," David Lilley said.

Familiarization of the explorations of PT NNT in the regency and sub-district had already been carried out in January and February 2011 by an integrated team of the Sumbawa regional administration. During the familiarization, the rural people had been given explanations on planned explorations, and hiring local manpower.
